Identity theft is a fast growing crime in Canada and no one is protected from such fraud. Identify theft is defined as the theft and use of your personal information for criminal purposes. Many strategies are used by fraudulent individuals in order to steal your identity.
In 2006, Protection Services worked closely with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in order to increase awareness about identity theft among the university community, targeting mostly students. In the Spring of 2006, the RCMP launched a student guide on personal information and scams protection. This guide was actually mostly developed by a uOttawa criminology student hired by the RCMP to work on this special project.
Protection Services doesn’t pretend to reinvent the wheel.
